Our Mission

We manage and preserve your wealth, so you can live out a confident retirement.

Operating out of a restored 1832 Federalist-style home in Henrietta, we’ve always appreciated strong foundations and a sense of stability—two things that we also strive to provide all of our clients with. How We Got Where We Are Today

1993

The Horizon Group was founded in June of 1993 by Mark Congdon. The firm's original office was located at 19 Center Street in the village of Geneseo. Like our current offices, the Center Street location was historically significant, serving as Geneseo's first firehouse.

1994

The Horizon Group opened its first Rochester location on Browncroft Boulevard. From inception, the group specialized in retirement planning and hosted a variety of workshops for prospective retirees from Xerox, Kodak, and local universities.

1996

In 1996, Tim Hammond left his position as a financial advisor with Five Star Bank to help Mark build the group.

1998

Our radio show, "Money and More," debuted on WHAM 1180 in January 1998 and was one of WHAM's highest rated programs for its entire 11-year run. Through the radio show, workshops, and our annual Financial Fairs, the partners of The Horizon Group quickly became known as Rochester's retirement specialists.

2004

Mark and Susan Congdon purchased the Abel Post Homestead, a historic 1832 cobblestone in West Henrietta. With the help of historic decorator Glenda Barcklow and 42 subcontractors, this beautifully restored Federalist-style home now serves as headquarters for Horizon Financial. The restoration earned the Town of Henrietta Beautification Award in 2006. The charming and relaxed atmosphere of this special office provides a comfortable setting for important conversations.

2011

Ken Blazick came aboard specializing in research and investment management and now serves as our Chief Investment Officer.

2015

In 2015 the Money Management team moved into a house across from the cobblestone on West Henrietta Road. This renovated 1916 farmhouse was part of the famed Tirabassi Farm.

2019

Horizon Advisory Services, Inc. became an SEC Registered Investment Advisor.  This is the legal entity through which we provide fiduciary asset management and financial planning services.

Today

While we have evolved over the years, we continue serving our clients with the foundational mission and values we first started with. We honor our roots, we remain committed to our firm’s tradition, and we cherish the many invaluable relationships built along the way.
